The Meadows Academy for Creative Kids

Our curriculum choices have been made with developmental appropriateness as well as adherence to Iowa Core Standards in mind.

 

• Literacy

The Building Blocks literacy curriculum is designed specifically for emergent literacy in kindergarten. It encompasses phonics, reading and writing instruction on a very age specific level while allowing for extension when necessary. 

• Math

Every Day Counts®: Calendar Math provides lessons and activities to preview, review, practice, and discuss critical math concepts and skills and build math understanding in a few minutes each day. This program will be supplemented with other hands-on mathematics materials and lessons.

• Science & Social Studies

Our science & social studies lessons will be focused on the outdoors and the tangible world around us. Science & social studies lessons will incorporate literacy, math, language, art and music when applicable to create comprehensive learning experiences.

• Music

Foundations of music will be taught to children with introductions to instruments, various music genres, music theory, song, and basic note recognition.

• Foreign Language

Children will be introduced to basic vocabulary relating to the topics of study in many languages throughout the year. Beginning with the home languages of the students in our classroom and branching out into the most common languages represented in our community.
